Jehoram, married into Ahab’s house, secures his throne by murdering all his brothers and leads Judah into idolatry. Elijah sends him a letter of doom, and God stirs up the Philistines and Arabians, who plunder his palace and carry off his family, all but one son. Jehoram dies in agony of a lingering bowel disease, “with no one’s regret,” a warning of the wages of forsaking the LORD.
