- Chapter 2 (c. 960 BC): Springtime love blossoms; “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine,” and the call to arise and come away.
- Chapter 3 (c. 960 BC): The bride seeks her beloved in the night and finds him, and the royal wedding procession approaches.
- Chapter 4 (c. 960 BC): The beloved praises the bride’s beauty and calls her a locked garden, a sealed fountain, wholly his.
- Chapter 5 (c. 960 BC): A night of missed union and longing; the bride seeks him and praises him to the daughters of Jerusalem.
- Chapter 6 (c. 960 BC): The lovers are reunited in mutual praise; the bride is unique and lovely among all.
- Chapter 7 (c. 960 BC): The beloved delights in the bride, and she gladly gives her love to him.
- Chapter 8 (c. 960 BC): The power of love, “strong as death,” a seal upon the heart that many waters cannot quench.
