The leaders, Levites, and people seal a written, signed covenant to walk in God’s Law. They pledge specifically not to intermarry with the peoples of the land, to keep the Sabbath and the sabbatical year, and to support the house of God with their tithes, offerings, wood, and firstfruits, “we will not neglect the house of our God.” The renewal moves from hearing the Word to committing, in concrete terms, to obey it.
