Jesus heals a paralytic and, to show His authority to forgive sins, first pronounces the man’s sins forgiven. He calls Matthew the tax collector to follow Him and dines with tax collectors and sinners, declaring, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” He heals a woman with a hemorrhage and raises a synagogue ruler’s daughter, opens blind eyes, and, moved with compassion for the harassed and helpless crowds, calls for laborers for the plentiful harvest.
