Jesus warns against the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. At Caesarea Philippi He asks His disciples who they say He is, and Peter confesses, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus blesses him and promises to build His church, against which the gates of hell will not prevail. Then He begins to foretell His suffering, death, and resurrection; when Peter rebukes Him, Jesus rebukes Peter, and calls all who would follow to deny themselves and take up their cross.
