Jesus teaches the crowds in parables of the kingdom. The parable of the sower shows the varied responses to the word; the weeds among the wheat, the mustard seed, and the leaven reveal the kingdom’s hidden, growing, and mixed character until the harvest of judgment. The hidden treasure and the pearl of great price show its surpassing worth, and the net full of fish its final sorting. Jesus explains that He speaks in parables to reveal truth to those given to understand while it remains hidden from hard hearts, and He is rejected in His hometown of Nazareth.
