Because Achan secretly kept spoil devoted to the LORD, Israel is defeated at little Ai, and Joshua falls on his face in dismay. The LORD reveals that sin is in the camp; by lot Achan is singled out and confesses that he coveted and hid a robe, silver, and gold. He and his household are judged in the Valley of Achor, and the LORD’s anger turns away.
