The kings of Canaan lose heart at the crossing. Israel’s new generation, uncircumcised in the wilderness, is circumcised at Gilgal, and they keep the Passover; the next day the manna ceases and they eat the produce of the land. Then Joshua meets a man with a drawn sword, the commander of the army of the LORD, who tells him to remove his sandals, for the place is holy.
