During a lull in the siege caused by an approaching Egyptian army, Jeremiah is arrested on a false charge of deserting and imprisoned in a dungeon. King Zedekiah secretly summons him to ask for a word from the LORD, and Jeremiah repeats that he will fall to Babylon, then begs not to be sent back to die in the dungeon, and is moved to the court of the guard.
