After three weeks of mourning and fasting, Daniel sees a glorious heavenly man whose appearance leaves him without strength. He is strengthened and told that his prayers were heard from the first day, but that the answer was delayed by spiritual conflict (the “prince of Persia” resisting until Michael, Israel’s prince, helped) a rare glimpse behind the curtain of unseen warfare, preparing Daniel for the final vision.
