The oracles continue against Ammon and Moab, and then strike closer to home with judgment on Judah for rejecting God’s law. Finally the spotlight falls on Israel itself, whose sins are catalogued in detail: they “sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals,” trample the poor, defile the vulnerable, and abuse God’s own gifts. Their privilege has become their guilt.
