Amos study chapter

Amos 3

c. 760 BCIsrael’s privilege means greater accountability; the prophet must speak, and Samaria will fall.

Amos states the principle at the heart of the book: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.” Election brings responsibility, not exemption. Using vivid images (a lion’s roar, a bird in a snare) Amos insists that the prophet cannot help but speak when God has spoken, and he announces that Samaria’s altars and luxurious houses will be torn down.
