The Shunammite woman, returning from a famine-driven exile, has her land restored at the very moment Gehazi is recounting Elisha’s deeds to the king. Elisha travels to Damascus, where he weeps as he foretells the cruelty Hazael will inflict on Israel; Hazael then murders his master and seizes Aram’s throne. In Judah, Jehoram and then Ahaziah reign, walking in the ways of the house of Ahab through marriage alliance.
