Under the guidance of Jehoiada the priest, young King Joash does what is right and organizes the collection of funds to repair the neglected temple, which is faithfully carried out. But the high places remain, and later Joash strips the temple treasures to buy off an Aramean invasion, and is finally assassinated by his own servants, his early promise unfulfilled.
