In Judah, the queen mother Athaliah, of Ahab’s line, seizes power by murdering the royal family, but the infant Joash is hidden in the temple for six years by his aunt. The priest Jehoiada then crowns the seven-year-old boy in a carefully guarded coup, and Athaliah is executed. A covenant is renewed to be the LORD’s people, and the temple of Baal is torn down.
