Jonathan’s soul is knit to David’s, and he covenants with him in love, giving him his own robe and armor. But when the women sing that Saul has struck down thousands and David tens of thousands, Saul is consumed with jealousy. He twice hurls a spear at David, sets him dangerous tasks hoping the Philistines will kill him, and gives him his daughter Michal as a snare, yet David’s success and the LORD’s presence only grow.
