Paul reminds them that he came not with lofty speech or wisdom but resolved “to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified,” in weakness and fear, so that their faith might rest on God’s power, not human wisdom. There is a wisdom of God, hidden and secret, “which God decreed before the ages for our glory” (the wisdom of the crucified Lord of glory) revealed not by human insight but by the Spirit, who searches the depths of God. The natural person cannot accept these things, but the spiritual person, who has “the mind of Christ,” discerns them.
