Paul’s heart’s desire is Israel’s salvation, but they sought a righteousness of their own rather than submitting to God’s righteousness, which is by faith. “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” The word of faith is near: “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved,” for “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But how will they call unless they hear, and hear unless someone preaches? “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
