Psalms 137

communal lamentBy the rivers of Babylon the exiles weep, remembering Zion.

A haunting lament of the exiles who sat and wept by the rivers of Babylon, refusing to sing the LORD’s song in a foreign land while their captors mocked them. It voices fierce love for Jerusalem (“if I forget you, O Jerusalem”) and a raw cry for justice on Babylon.
