The father recalls the wisdom his own father taught him and pleads with his son to “get wisdom; get insight” above all else, for she will guard and exalt him. He contrasts the bright path of the righteous, shining ever brighter, with the dark way of the wicked, and gives the central charge, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
