Three displays of Jesus’ power over the forces that oppress humanity. In the country of the Gerasenes He frees a man possessed by a legion of demons, sending them into a herd of pigs. Then, on the way to heal the dying daughter of Jairus, a synagogue ruler, a woman who had suffered twelve years of bleeding is healed by touching His garment in faith. Though word comes that the girl has died, Jesus takes her by the hand and raises her, saying, “Talitha cumi,” “Little girl, arise.”
