Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a colt as crowds spread their cloaks and cry “Hosanna!” He curses a fruitless fig tree, a sign of fruitless Israel, and cleanses the temple, driving out the merchants and declaring, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations,” but “you have made it a den of robbers.” The leaders seek to destroy Him. When they challenge His authority, He answers with a question about John’s baptism that leaves them unable to reply.
