Full of the Spirit, Jesus overcomes the devil’s threefold temptation in the wilderness with Scripture. Returning to Galilee, He stands in the Nazareth synagogue, reads from Isaiah, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me... to proclaim good news to the poor,” and declares it fulfilled in Himself, but is rejected by His hometown. He then teaches with authority in Capernaum, casts out an unclean spirit, heals Peter’s mother-in-law and many others, and insists He must preach the good news of the kingdom to other towns as well.
