- Chapter 1 (586 BC): Jerusalem sits desolate as a weeping widow, mourning her sin and her fall, with none to comfort her.
- Chapter 2 (586 BC): The LORD, in fierce anger, has destroyed Zion; the people are called to pour out their hearts before Him.
- Chapter 3 (586 BC): The man of affliction moves from despair to hope: “great is your faithfulness.”
- Chapter 4 (586 BC): The horrors of the siege, when the precious sons of Zion were brought low.
- Chapter 5 (586 BC): A closing prayer: “Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored.”
