Samson’s appetites lead him to Delilah, who is bribed to learn the secret of his strength. After three deceptions he tells her the truth, his unshorn Nazirite hair, and she has it cut; the LORD departs, and the Philistines gouge out his eyes and set him grinding at the mill. But his hair grows, and at Dagon’s festival he prays once more and pulls down the temple pillars, killing more in his death than in all his life.
