The LORD renews the promise of victory, and Joshua takes Ai by a well-laid ambush, drawing its army out and burning the city. Then, as Moses commanded, Israel gathers at Mounts Ebal and Gerizim, builds an altar, and Joshua reads all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, before the whole assembly.
