Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” In sharp debate He warns that those who reject Him will die in their sins, and He speaks of the truth that sets free and of true and false fatherhood. The chapter climaxes in His astonishing claim: “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am” (taking the divine name) so that they pick up stones to throw at Him.
