At the Feast of Booths in Jerusalem, opinion about Jesus is sharply divided. He teaches openly in the temple, and on the last day of the feast cries out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink,” promising rivers of living water, the Spirit, to those who believe. The officers sent to arrest Him return empty-handed, saying, “No one ever spoke like this man,” and Nicodemus urges a fair hearing.
