Job answers the LORD with worship and repentance: “I know that you can do all things... I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” He does not receive an explanation for his suffering, but he receives God, and that is enough. The LORD then rebukes the three friends for not speaking rightly of Him, and, remarkably, has Job intercede and sacrifice for them, accepting them for his sake. Finally God restores Job’s fortunes, giving him twice as much as before, ten more children, and long life, so that Job dies old and full of days.
