Job makes his final and most searching defense, a solemn oath of innocence that reviews his whole life: he has not lusted, lied, or dealt falsely; not oppressed servants, ignored the poor, trusted in wealth, gloated over an enemy, or worshiped idols. Item by item he invites God’s judgment if he is guilty, and signs, as it were, his defense, longing for the Almighty to answer him. With this the words of Job are ended.
