Overwhelmed, Jeremiah wishes his head were a spring of water so he could weep day and night for the slain of his people, a nation of liars and adulterers. The LORD declares that the wise, the mighty, and the rich should not boast in their wisdom, might, or wealth, but only in this: “that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness.”
