The Babylonian captain releases Jeremiah, who chooses to stay in the land with the appointed governor Gedaliah at Mizpah. Under Gedaliah the scattered remnant and refugees begin to gather and harvest, but a warning comes that Ishmael, of the royal line, is plotting Gedaliah’s murder, which Gedaliah refuses to believe.
