God calls Judah to genuine repentance (“circumcise yourselves to the LORD; remove the foreskin of your hearts”) or face disaster. Jeremiah then sees a terrifying vision of the coming invasion from the north that will turn the land into a waste, and cries out in anguish at the ruin barreling toward his people.
