Israel is likened to a luxuriant but self-serving vine, whose heart is false; its altars and pillars will be destroyed and its king cut off. The prophet calls, “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love... for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you,” but warns that they have “plowed iniquity” and will reap injustice.
