The point is that “we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,” a minister in “the true tent” set up by the Lord. Christ’s ministry is “much more excellent,” for He mediates “a better covenant, which is enacted on better promises.” The author quotes at length Jeremiah’s prophecy of the new covenant, in which God writes His laws on hearts and minds and remembers sins no more. “In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete,” ready to vanish away.
