Cross-Testament Connections

Genesis is foundational to the entire Bible, and the New Testament quotes and alludes to it many times. Key connections:

• Creation and New Creation: John 1:1-3 echoes Genesis 1:1; Revelation 21-22 depicts new heavens and new earth, reversing the fall
• The Seed Promise: Galatians 3:16 identifies Christ as Abraham’s singular “seed” through whom all nations are blessed
• Types of Christ: Adam (Romans 5:14), Melchizedek (Hebrews 7), and Isaac received back “figuratively speaking” (Hebrews 11:17-19; compare Romans 8:32); many readers also see Joseph (Acts 7:9-10), though the New Testament does not call him a type
• Justification by Faith: Romans 4 and Galatians 3 extensively use Genesis 15:6 as the foundation for salvation by faith alone
• Marriage: Ephesians 5:31 quotes Genesis 2:24, applying it to Christ and the church
