The prophets Haggai and Zechariah rouse the people, and Zerubbabel and Jeshua begin to build again, with the prophets of God helping them. When the Persian governor Tattenai questions their authority, the Jewish elders answer that they are servants of the God of heaven rebuilding a house their fathers had built, and appeal to Cyrus’s original decree. Tattenai sends a report to Darius, asking him to search the royal archives.
