In the seventh month the people gather as one to Jerusalem, and Jeshua and Zerubbabel rebuild the altar and resume the daily burnt offerings and the feasts, “for fear was on them because of the peoples of the lands.” Then they lay the foundation of the temple, and the priests and Levites praise the LORD, “for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever”; but the old men who had seen the first temple weep aloud, so that the sound of joy and weeping mingle and carry far.
