The chapter records the register of those who returned with Zerubbabel and Jeshua (the families, the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants) nearly fifty thousand in all, along with their animals. Some could not prove their genealogy and were kept from the priesthood until a priest with the Urim and Thummim should arise. The returnees settle in their towns and give freely for the house of God.
