In a vision, the Spirit carries Ezekiel to the Jerusalem temple, where he is shown escalating “abominations” being practiced in secret: an idol at the gate, elders worshiping creatures painted on the walls, women weeping for the pagan god Tammuz, and men bowing to the sun with their backs to the temple. The defilement is so great that God’s glory is being driven from His house.
