Among the exiles by the Chebar canal, Ezekiel sees the heavens opened and an overwhelming vision: a stormy cloud flashing fire, four living creatures each with four faces and wings, gleaming wheels within wheels full of eyes, and above them a crystal expanse bearing a throne. On the throne is a figure of gleaming fire, radiant like the rainbow (“the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD”) and Ezekiel falls on his face, for the glory of God has come to him in Babylon.
