A search is made for a new queen, and Esther, a beautiful Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, is taken into the harem, concealing her people at Mordecai’s instruction. She wins the favor of all, and the king loves her above the rest and sets the royal crown on her head. Meanwhile Mordecai, sitting at the king’s gate, uncovers a plot by two eunuchs to assassinate Ahasuerus and reports it through Esther, and the deed is recorded in the royal chronicles.
