Settled in his palace, David desires to build a house for the ark, but through Nathan the LORD reverses the offer: David will not build God a house; God will build David a house. He promises an offspring who will build the temple and, beyond him, an everlasting dynasty, throne, and kingdom: “your throne shall be established forever.” Overwhelmed, David responds with a humble prayer of praise.
