All the tribes come to Hebron and anoint David king over Israel; he is thirty and will reign forty years. He captures the Jebusite stronghold of Jerusalem, makes it his City of David, and grows greater as the LORD is with him. When the Philistines attack, David twice inquires of the LORD and defeats them, obeying God’s specific battle plans.
