Nathan comes with a parable of a rich man who steals a poor man’s only lamb, and when David angrily condemns him, the prophet declares, “You are the man.” David confesses, “I have sinned against the LORD,” and is forgiven, yet told the sword will not leave his house and the child will die. The baby dies despite David’s fasting; David worships and is comforted, and God gives Bathsheba another son, Solomon, whom the LORD loves.
