Josiah becomes king at eight and, seeking the LORD, orders the repair of the temple. During the work the high priest Hilkiah finds the Book of the Law, and when it is read to Josiah he tears his clothes in grief, realizing how far the nation has strayed. He inquires of the prophetess Huldah, who confirms that judgment will come on the faithless nation but that, because of Josiah’s tender heart, it will not fall in his days.
