Amaziah does right, but “not with a whole heart.” He obeys a prophet by dismissing hired Israelite troops, and defeats Edom, but then foolishly worships the very gods of the people he conquered. Rebuked, he refuses to listen, provokes a disastrous war with Israel, and Jerusalem’s wall is broken and the temple plundered; he too is later assassinated.
