Forbidden by the prophet Shemaiah to make war on his brothers, Rehoboam instead fortifies the cities of Judah. The faithful priests and Levites, driven out by Jeroboam’s counterfeit worship, come south to Jerusalem, along with all who set their hearts to seek the LORD, strengthening Judah for three years as it walks in the way of David and Solomon.
