Weary of being hunted and fearing he will one day fall to Saul, David defects to Achish of Gath, who gives him the town of Ziklag. From there David raids Israel’s old enemies (the Geshurites, Girzites, and Amalekites) while deceiving Achish into thinking he has been attacking Judah, so that the Philistine trusts him as a permanent servant.
