When the wealthy, surly Nabal insults David and refuses his men provisions, David sets out to kill every male in his household. Nabal’s wise and beautiful wife Abigail rushes to meet David with gifts and a plea, restraining him from avenging himself and shedding blood without cause. Nabal dies by the LORD’s hand ten days later, and David takes the discerning Abigail as his wife.
